Feather and Fan Fingerless Mittens
materials: 420 yards fingering weight, #3 (U.S.) size dpkns
gauge: 28st=10cm
Terms:
M1L: Left Slant M1: With left needle tip, lift strand between needles front to back. Knit the lifted look through the back to twist the stitch.
M1R: Right Slant M1: With left needle tip, lift strand between needles back to front. Knit the lifted look through the front to twist the stitch.
CO: cast on
BO: bind off
PU: pick up
Cuff
Cast on 40 stitches.* Join, being careful not to twist.
Purl one round.
Then, work Feather and Fan as follows:
Round 1: K1, (K2tog) 3X, (yo, K1) 3,X (K2tog) 3X, K1
Round 2: Knit
Round 3, Knit
Round 4, Purl
Repeat 7 times (or to desired length)
Hand
Knit 2 rounds
Increase 1 stitch at end of next round.
Total stitches: 41
Shape thumb gusset
Knit across 19 stitches, pm, M1L, K1, M1R, pm, knit to end: 2 stitches increased, 3 gusset stitches between marker.
Knit one round
Increase 2 stitches inside gusset markers in this manner every 3 rounds 4 times, then 2 stitches every 4 rounds 2 times
Total gusset stitches: 15
On next round, place gusset stitches on length of yarn, remove gusset marker, use backward loop method to CO 1 stitch over gap left by gusset, and knit to end of round. Total stitches: 41.
Work even until top knuckle of little finger.
Knit in K1, P1 rib for approximately 1 1/2 inch (or desired length). BO loosely.
*You may desire 38 stitches for snugness.
PU stitches on thumb, knit in K1, P1 for 6 rows, BO loosely. You may want to add a stitch (16) so the pattern is even
