As most of you know, GOTTA KNIT! is the place to go for knitting lessons and instruction. We are known for individualized attention, exemplified by our custom pattern writing for garments that actually fit, our willingness to pick up dropped stitches, fix mistakes, and rip out portions of our customer’s work (and of course put those scarey live stitches back on a needle!), and the shear numbers of new knitters who have left our store with beautiful knitting projects after only a one hour lesson.

We are therefore tweaking our hours to accommodate more people who need individual attention. As of February 1, our hours for shopping, listed below, will change slightly. We are, however, adapting to the changing needs of our customers, and will continue to see those who need our individual attention, outside of regular store hours, by appointment.

NEW HOURS AS OF FEBRUARY 1:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Thursday : 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Knitting is a great thing to do while watching the superbowl … AS LONG AS YOUR PROJECT IS MINDLESS!

We’ve got the perfect football watching projects for you at Gotta Knit!, and in honor of the all important game on Sunday, and Big Blue’s success (after all football is the reason many gals learned to knit in the first place, right?) we’ll give you free patterns and 10% off all blue yarns in the store, February 2 – February 5, 2012.*

You asked for it: many customers who know about our annual pilgrimage to Florence Italy want to know what’s in store for 2013. Read all about what we saw on our website: www.gottaknit.net. Go to the NEWS tab.

Customers who have knit with us for years are familiar with our unique service of custom design and free pattern writing. They also know that this is the time of year that we make our annual pilgrimage to Pitti Filati (Florence, Italy) to see the knitwear fashion trends for the coming year. Piti Filati is the most important event for forecasting lifestyle and color trends for the entire knitwear industry.

This year’s theme at Pitti Filati explored the impact of agriculture on people and what we wear. We saw the importance of high quality raw materials, and how it effects our lifestyle; how we look and how we feel. The urban culture may play a small part in style, but it is truly the rural community that cultivates new ideas for fibers that affect our everyday life. Viewing a slide show depicting rural communities worldwide was a rather soothing interlude in a world that often seems topsy turvy and chaotic. It is similar to the sense of tranquility that we knitters experience when we have beautiful fibers and colors in our hands.

Here are some of the trends we saw for the coming year:

THE COLORS OF SAND FROM AROUND THE WORLD. Soft sandy colors of peach, tan, and gold evoked soothing memories of being on a beach.

VERY LOOSE AND FLOWING SHAPES. The garments we saw for 20013 were almost shapeless in construction. I call it deconstructed construction. I saw many easy luxurious tunics. There is less tailoring and more draping, allowing the human form to shape the garment.

ASYMMETRY. The most important detail for 2012-2013 is the asymmetrical hems, armholes, and necklines. You will see many single bare shoulders this summer and next.

Most importantly, technology is running full speed ahead, creating yarns that are softer, lighter weight, and more beautiful than ever before. It is our goal to search out these natural “high tech” fibers that offer tremendous function but not falling short on luxury and comfort.

Come to Gotta Knit and take advantage of our unique design sense. We can write a sophisticated looking pattern for even the most novice knitter. This is what we are known for. This is how our experiences can benefit you!
